Elisabete Sousa is a Portuguese interdisciplinary artist who combines natural elements and technology in her work. With a degree in Theater from ESMAE and the University of Falmouth, she focuses on the intersection between human, nature, and machine, integrating both real and imaginary entities. A notable characteristic of her work is the performative layer she adds, giving a dynamic dimension to her creations.
Committed to sustainability, Elisabete favors the use of reusable and recycled materials, along with organic elements such as bacteria, water, plants, and moss. Her practice not only blurs the line between the organic and the artificial but also actively involves artificial intelligence, making it a vital tool in designing interactive pieces that reflect on our relationship with the environment.
Elisabete is dedicated to exploring and expanding sustainable art forms, promoting collaboration among humans, non-humans, and artificial entities.
Elisabete has exhibited her work in Portugal, England, Colombia, the United Kingdom, and Mexico. Notable exhibitions include the solo exhibition "THIS PERSON DOES NOT EXIST: 1.1 Simulacra" (2024) at n'0.estudio, the group exhibition "The Amplification of the World" at MIRA space (2024), "THIS PERSON DOES NOT EXIST" (2023) at the street arts exhibition in Sines, "THE NEST" (Colombia, 2023), "The Sacrifice of the cyberlamb" (Mexico, 2023), "MONITORY" (2022) at CCI, "THE CUBE" (2021) at the IMAGINARIUS festival.
Her artistic residencies include Artesumapaz (Colombia, 2023), livingcityporto, digital/Porto (2021), EUBYLAKES (digital, 2020), Aveiro Criatech (Aveiro, 2020), “Emergency Service”, FIMP (Porto, 2017), and “ArtistLockIn” (UK, 2017).
